Dead And Company, Featuring Oteil Burbridge, Announce Full Tour

After announcing their lineup and a single Halloween concert, Grateful Dead alumni group Dead and Company has revealed a 10-date run this fall. The band will kick things off in Albany, New York at the Times Union Center before a two-night run at Madison Square Garden and several other East Coast dates. Their final dates are set for the end the year in San Francisco and a New Years Eve run in Los Angeles at The Forum.
Dead and Company’s members include three of the four remaining Grateful Dead members: Bob Weir, Mickey Hart, and Bill Kreutzmann. Bassist Phil Lesh opted not to join the tour, instead focusing on his own group Phil Lesh & Friends. Oteil Burbridge will take his place, while guitarist/vocalist John Mayer and keyboardist Jeff Chimenti will round out the lineup. Burbridge has worked with drummer Kreutzmann before, but his resumé also includes work with the Allman Brothers Band, Tedeschi & Trucks, Col. Bruce Hampton’s Aquarium Rescue Unit, and more. The bassist’s style will be an interesting fit to the band’s style.
“There are a few points where I really connect with the Grateful Dead music and think that I can make some cool contributions,” Burbridge told App.com. “One is the gentle acoustic jazz side of things. Another is all the blues and R&B influenced music where I think I can provide a great groove for it and really make it bounce. And I’m really looking forward to the completely out there Sun Ra, Col. Bruce Hampton, leave-the-galaxy part of the music. It’s a good thing I have all of these Aquarium Rescue Unit gigs right before the Dead and Company starts to get me in that frame of mind. This is going to be a great adventure!”
