Fodera Unveils New Masterbuilt Bass, The Crescent
So far, Fodera’s Masterbuilt series has used their existing bass shapes as a canvas for ornamental design. The latest in the one-of-a-kind, top-shelf line changes that. The Masterbuilt Crescent is inspired by the company’s AJ Presentation Hybrid but makes some drastically different changes.
“The Crescent Masterbuilt was designed in collaboration with friend & loyal customer Wayne Pryor to be an evolution of its design and spirit,” Fodera explains. “Its unique silhouette dubbed as the ‘Crescent’ was engineered for ergonomic comfort for multiple playing positions, allowing unencumbered access to the entire range of the instrument. The headless design further condenses the profile making for a surprisingly compact instrument given the scale length, number of strings and depth. The tone controls for the passive Fodera Duncan dual-coil pickups are housed in a recessed cavity on the side of the upper bout for easy access while remaining discreet.”
Fodera crafted the Crescent with a spruce top and back, a walnut body, and mahogany struts. The six-string bass has a 35-inch scale with a three-piece red oak neck and an ebony fingerboard. For an extra cool factor, the back of the body has a hand-drawn interpretation of John Coltrane’s Tone Circle. Its fingerboard has custom brass inlays at the 7th, 12th, and 19th frets. Other features include a pair of Fodera / Duncan Dual Coil Pickups with volume and tone controls that are recessed into the side of the body.
