Jennifer Finch’s Posthumous Memoir “Shooting Up and Making Out” Set for 2027 Release

Jennifer Finch Shooting Up and Making Out

Da Capo Press has announced that L7 bassist Jennifer Finch‘s memoir, Shooting Up and Making Out, will be released on January 19th, 2027. The news comes just a month after her untimely passing from cancer.

“Jennifer’s memoir was the last major project she completed before she passed away,” says co-writer Jeff Alulis. “She and I worked together for two years to make sure she was happy with every word of it, and with someone as intentional and thoughtful as Jennifer that was no small task! I’m heartbroken that she won’t get to see it published, but I’m thrilled to share her life and legacy with the world.”

Finch seemingly packed enough into her 59 years for two lifetimes. She became a fixture of the Los Angeles hardcore punk scene at 12, started shooting heroin at 14, and joined her first band with Courtney Love at 19. In 1986, she joined L7 and was soon touring the world.

“She shared stages with bands like Pearl Jam and the Red Hot Chili Peppers in between overdosing, dating Dave Grohl, and coping with the tragic, early deaths of some of her closest friends,” Da Capo writes. “And she re-defined herself through sobriety, photography, and her courage in the face of a deadly illness.”

Shooting Up and Making Out: A Memoir of My Life in LA and L7 will be available in hardcover, eBook, and audiobook formats.
