Thundercat: “Heartbreaks + Setbacks” Live on KCRW
Stephen “Thundercat” Bruner recently announced a new album, which sent me into a spiral of watching his YouTube videos. Here’s a clip from five years ago when he visited KCRW with his trio to perform “Heartbreaks + Setbacks,” from his 2013 album Apocalypse.
Thundercat sets up the syncopated groove with some heavy octave effects on his signature six-string. Be sure to check the unison arpeggios with the keyboard at the 2:42 mark.
In his time with No Treble, Kevin has met hundreds of amazing bassists and interviewed icons like Jack Casady, Victor Wooten, Les Claypool, Marcus Miller, and more. He's a gigging bassist performing jazz in Northern Virginia and bluegrass with The Plate Scrapers up and down the East Coast. Kevin appreciates all genres of music, from R&B to metal and everything in between. Connect with Kevin on Facebook and check his performance schedule on his website.
