Modalics Launches with Innovative Drum Machine App, Beat Scholar

We’ve been enjoying the music of Eyal Amir and bassist Or Lubianiker for years, and now they’ve started a company to help you make your own music. Modalics has launched its first product called Beat Scholar, a beat-making app that they call the “ultimate rhythmic playground.”
It runs as a plugin for your DAW or as a standalone drum machine app and is designed for creating interesting rhythms in a simple way. Beats are displayed as circles that can be divided up into up to 42 slices and combine multiple drums on the same beat.
“Quintuplets & Triplets on the same pattern? No problem,” they state. “Play 35 kicks on a ¼ note? psh… easy!”
Beat Scholar has over 250 curated samples, though you can load your own with a drag-and-drop interface. Other features include a built-in effects section, MIDI features, and pattern triggering.
“This is by far the biggest, most exciting and elaborate thing I’ve ever produced in my years as a musician and product developer,” Lubianiker wrote on Facebook. “Beat Scholar is by far my favorite creation, I’m totally in love with this product and the story behind it and I loved every second of developing it.”
