Marco Mendoza Speaks on New Thin Lizzy Lineup

In a recent interview with RockPages.gr, ex-Whitesnake bassist Marco Mendoza spoke about the new Thin Lizzy lineup, which reformed in May.

Thin Lizzy manager Adam Parsons called about joining the group. “I’ve always been a fan of Thin Lizzy and Phil Lynott and the boys, and so for me, when I get a call like that, I’m there because it’s about the music.”

Mendoza is filling in on bass for the late Phil Lynott, who died in 1986. Lynott was also the singer and main songwriter for the group. Critics say that the new Thin Lizzy is about using the name to make money, but Marco disagrees. ”The reality is, unfortunately, Phil Lynott is no longer with us, and that’s it… bottom line for me, if I was doing music for the money, I would have quit a long, long, long time ago. It’s been good, I’ve had some good runs, but I just love what music does for the people, for the audience, for the countries, and for the world. I really believe in the power of music.”

The newest version of Thin Lizzy also features Ricky Warwick on vocals/guitar, Vivian Campbell on guitar, Darren Wharton on keys, Brian Downey on drums, and Scott Gorham on guitar. The group has set up a tour of the UK, coming January 2011.
