Stanley Clarke Band, Featuring Hiromi: Goodbye Pork Pie Hat

Not one to bow to standards, Stanley Clarke and his band made a funked up version of the typically solemn Mingus tune “Goodbye Pork Pie Hat,” which was originally written in memory of saxophonist Lester Young.

This clip was taken from the Heineken Jazzaldia in 2010 and features world-class pianist Hiromi, drummer Ronald Bruner Jr. and keyboardist Ruslan Sirota.

  1. Barry Irwin

    Nice!

  2. Serious. The keybpard work was beyond exceptional. The drummer was right on it and Stanley, as usual, got it done and as a true pro, he laid back and let the others show their stuff. Nothing to prove at this point. Excellent rendition of a legendary piece.

  3. Stanley and Crew let the music Do what it what it do!

  4. The way the lady on the piano moves no wonder she needs sneakers on her feet:D

  5. If there is such a thing as having TOO MUCH FUN playing music, it looks like THIS. Stanley shines the light on his keyboard players, and whoa!

  6. Keyboard bass drowned out the rest of the band… playing is great though.

  7. Ahhhhhh – nothing like it.
