Mike Portnoy’s New Band Announces Debut Album, Featuring Dave LaRue

Flying ColorsFlying Colors, a new band consisting of ex-Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy, Dixie Dregs bassist Dave LaRue, guitarist Steve Morse, keyboardist Neal Morse and vocalist Casey McPherson, have announced details of their self-titled debut album, set for a March 27th, 2012 release.

The band utilizes elements from each member’s experience and background, according to Portnoy.

“This album has bits and pieces of what you’d expect from each of us,” the drummer stated. “However, the sum of all its parts led to brand new, unchartered territory for all involved. Working with this dream lineup was everything I hoped it would be… on both a musical and personal level. I can’t wait to play live!”

The band came together for just nine days early last year to compose and record the album.

“What was really satisfying is that we were able to create so much new music in such a short amount of time,” LaRue said. “I mean, these guys are so incredible and it really has been fun doing this project and seeing how fast these minds work and create all this new material.”

Flying Colors is expected to tour in support of the new album, with concert dates to announced in the coming months.
