Mashup: Louis Johnson / Drumline Jam

Vulfpeck’s Jack Stratton has a cool project called Sound of Two, where he takes two completely separate musical events and puts them together for a unique jam.

Our favorite is a clip of slap master Louis Johnson, from his instructional DVD, mashed up with a clip of the Grambling State Drumline at the 2008 Bayou Classic.

In his time with No Treble, Kevin has met hundreds of amazing bassists and interviewed icons like Jack Casady, Victor Wooten, Les Claypool, Marcus Miller, and more. He's a gigging bassist performing jazz in Northern Virginia and bluegrass with The Plate Scrapers up and down the East Coast. Kevin appreciates all genres of music, from R&B to metal and everything in between. Connect with Kevin on Facebook and check his performance schedule on his website.

  1. That was sooooo cool. I love Louis Johnson. His style of slapping was an inspiration to me.

  2. Didn’t Frank Zappa do this on the track Rubber Shirt on Sheik Yer Booty? I think he coined the term Zenochonicity or something? Am I crazy? (don’t answer that).
