Ibanez Teams with Korg for the SR Kaoss Bass

Here’s something different: Ibanez has teamed up with Korg to introduce the SRKP4 Bass. The 4-string model takes the company’s flagship SR model and equips it with a Korg Mini Kaoss Pad 2S, which has 100 effect programs that can be controlled real time with a touchpad interface. Those effects include a looper, vinyl break, and ducking compressor effects. It can also record, play loops, and store three program memories for instant recall of effects.

Even more, the bass has a standalone built-in distortion with its own tone and gain knobs. Both the distortion and mini kaoss pad 2S can be bypassed to use the SRKP4 as a normal bass guitar. The bass itself is built with a mahogany body, maple neck, and rosewood fretboard. Its pickup is an Ibanez IBZ-KP. Another forward-thinking feature is the addition of a separate 1/8-inch headphone output jack located next to the main output.

The Ibanez SRKP4 is expected to ship soon with a price point around $400. [Editor’s note: A previous version of this story noted the price point at $600. Ibanez has stated the price will be closer to $400.]

  1. Me gustó mucho la sección de Loop cuando usaba el aparato :P

Shut up and take my money!

  3. I’ve been using a B1D for years. This seems distortion-centric. Not sure this appeals to the overall MIDI community. There’s opportunities here to offer a fuller library of samples (strings, drums, brass, etc.).

Can’t think of anything I’d want less. It’s interesting I suppose if you’re into that kind of thing.

Any specific release date? I must have this!!!

  6. Any idea how they affix the Kaos pad to the bass. This is a fantastic idea, and the units are relatively inexpensive. One of these would go great for my custom Muckelroy piccolo bass that is being built. :)

Cheap. Ass. Bass… what a shame.

  8. I love the combination of technology, but I’ve tried running my bass through the full fledged KP3 before and a lot of the effects are pretty gimmicky in a performance context. It’s difficult to focus on playing while having parts of your hand sweeping the pad, especially if it’s timing critical, and the effects are so specific and untweakable that you would have to have a very different approach as opposed to working with regular effects and pedals. It’s still a cool thing to see a big company like Ibanez do, though (even if the bass looks like a budget model).

This is a great stuff but I might see a 1 small problem. The inputs for Korg pad have short cables and going out from guitar too close to Pad. Result of that is high angle of bending cables. So, after time and often usage cables will breake. My sugestion is to have little loger cables that going out near guitar cable input. The cables will not bend at high angle and if cables break bass players will have “space” to repair cables them selfe.
I apologise for my writing and spelling if there are errors.
    Have a nice day! :)

Mine have broken twice. I can’t figure out a long lasting solution yet. Have you?
