Talking Heads: Take Me To The River, Live 1980
I recently came across a great full-length concert video of the Talking Heads, and it got me moving. Taken from their November 1980 performance at the Capitol Theatre in Passaic, New Jersey, the band is in rare form with Tina Weymouth sharing bass duties with Busta “Cherry” Jones. Other members of the touring band include soon-to-be King Crimson member Adrian Belew and Parliament keyboardist Bernie Worrell. Needless to say, the band’s chemistry is electric.
Here’s a clip of “Take Me To The River” from the concert’s encore. Weymouth and Jones double the bluesy, driving bass line throughout. Jones adds tasteful fills during the breakdown for a little extra low end.
In his time with No Treble, Kevin has met hundreds of amazing bassists and interviewed icons like Jack Casady, Victor Wooten, Les Claypool, Marcus Miller, and more. He's a gigging bassist performing jazz in Northern Virginia and bluegrass with The Plate Scrapers up and down the East Coast. Kevin appreciates all genres of music, from R&B to metal and everything in between. Connect with Kevin on Facebook and check his performance schedule on his website.
One of the coolest bands from the 80’s. Groovy, unique!
Thanks for posting. Don’t mean to be negative but this just inspires me to go search for the Al Green original.
Excellent ,,,
Bass in -the -groove vibe …. Fun band !
I think “Animals” is my favorite from this one
All 80s bands need 2 bass players ;-) Byrne looks emaciated/ill. Honestly I liked the recorded version better – much better ‘groove’.
