Ryan Madora’s “Bass Players To Know” column on No Treble has been such a hit. So much so, Ryan decided to publish a book. “Bass Players To Know: Learning From The Greats” features 35 bassists that have helped the instrument’s evolution.

Doug Lubahn, who played bass on three albums by the Doors, has passed away. He was 71 years old. The band shared the news on their social media accounts.

This week we’re taking a look at the insanely intricate bass luthier Ivan Mulia calls the “TTT Bass” Misery 3030. The bass features finely detailed, acid-etched aluminum plates for the body top and back, as well as the fretless fingerboard.

Geddy Lee has added a trio of new book signings to his “Official (Yet Kind of Random) Big Beautiful Book of Bass Book Tour.” The “East Coast Hat Trick Leg” will see the Rush bassist heading to Pittsburgh, New York City, and Halifax through December.

Felix Pastorius will be joining Jeff Coffin for a short tour of the Southeast. Coffin announced the shows, saying “Excited to do a short run with my friends Nir Felder, Felix Pastorius, and Keith Carlock in December. This group is absolute fire!”

Continuing their recent run of insect-themed pedals, Fuzzrocious Pedals has collaborated once again with Electro-Faustus for a pedal called Maggotor. The pedal combines the Fuzzrocious Baby Furnace and the Electro-Faustus Blackfly for a unique unit.

We’ve enjoyed the various covers Martin Miller has done. In this clip, he takes on the music of The Police, with seven tunes. Once again, Benni Jud is handling the bass duties, as well as the backing vocals.

Darkglass Electronics has expanded its limited-edition line of amps with the Alpha·Omega 900 “Centurion”. The new model houses their Alpha·Omega 900 in a red chassis with laser-etched artwork by Ignacio Bazán.

Here’s a phenomenal live clip from an Anderson, Rabin & Wakeman concert in 2018, with bassist Lee Pomeroy. ARW’s performance of “Heart Of The Sunrise” prominently features Pomeroy, including a fantastic solo.

The works of Bottesini, Dragonetti, and Koussevitsky have dominated the solo repertoire for double bass for over a hundred years. Leon Bosch is pushing the instrument’s rep forward with a new album called “21st Century Bass.”

Teymur Phell has worked with a long list of the top jazz musicians. Now he’s released his debut album, “Master Volume.” We caught up with him to get the scoop on the album, how he swings on electric, and what technique stuck with him from a bass legend.
