This year marks the 100th anniversary of bebop pioneer Charlie Parker’s birth. His legacy cannot be understated, and as such bassist Fumi Tomita has released a new album to honor the jazz icon.

SolidGoldFX has unveiled the NU-33 Vinyl Engine, a new pedal that replicates the lo-fi sound of vintage records.

I’ve always loved the Tiny Desk series, and I am glad they were able to keep it going during these trying times. Here’s a new “Home” video with musicians from GroundUP Music, including Chris Tordini and Michael League. What a fantastic mix of music!

They’re doing it again! Steve Bailey, Victor Wooten, and John Patitucci are hosting a webinar on Thursday. This time they’ll be chatting with five giants of the bass: Ron Carter, Stanley Clarke, Steve Swallow, Anthony Jackson, and Christian McBride.

Jackson’s X Series features versions of their classic designs with modern upgrades in playability in an affordable package. Their Concert bass shape got the treatment several times over, including this X Series Concert Bass CBXNT IV in a cool matte army drab finish.

Our friend Randall Webb sent in this clip of The Byrds tearing through an epic version of “Eight Miles High” at the Fillmore East in 1970. The band’s lineup at the time was the quartet of Roger McGuinn, Clarence White, Gene Parsons, and Skip Battin.

It’s another sad day in the world of bass. French double bass luthier Patrick Charton has passed away after suffering a stroke. He was 66 years old.

Cory Henry has a new album coming out on October 30th. From “Something to Say”, here’s the live performance video for the first track, “Don’t Forget”. As usual, Sharay Reed is in the pocket!

The great Leland Sklar has announced his new book, “Everybody Loves Me”, is now available for order. The “coffee table masterpiece” is filled with over 6,000 unique photos of celebrities and fans in Sklar’s signature pose of flipping the bird.

Darkglass Electronics has announced two new amps to their lineup with the Microtubes 500v2 and the Alpha Omega 500. Each of the amplifiers is based around the company’s respective overdrive circuits and is matched with a new power section.

Kinga Glyk said “There are some bass lines I just want to know how to play… I tried to figure out what Joe Dart is playing in this song… woooow crazy!!” The tune is Vulfpeck’s “It Gets Funkier IV”, and Kinga nails it.
