Louis Johnson: “Get On The Floor” Isolated Bass

Today, I’m coming at you with an isolated bass video featuring the late, great Louis Johnson! In this clip, we hear LJ’s bass tracks for the Off The Wall album – specifically, “Get On The Floor”.

This is cool because he used two basses for the recording, the trusty Stingray, and the classic Alembic Series I bass. You can hear both axes being A/B’d through the tune.

SERIOUS THUMPS!!!

    L. Johnson always chose the groove!

Boy they sure sound good together, if I had to pick one based on this eq’ing I’d pick the stingray. Of course I’d love to have that alembic sitting around too!

If the bass guitar has it’s own volume setting the studio engineer should let the player have control of the sound and not set the instrument volume control at full blast/ 10 over working the pick-ups/ the track that closes to how the bass performs sounds the best

Alembic! But I’m biased cuz thats all I play.

The Music Man for the lows and the Alembic for clarity… I dig them both together too though. Really not helping am I ?

How did he play the second part so perfectly matched to the 1st one?

    The Alembic

The two together are so closely aligned, it’s as if he’s using a chorus pedal.
