Earlier this year, Mutoid Man shared the good news: they’re working on a new studio album. The bad news: bassist Nick Cageo had left the group. Now the group has another piece of good news: High on Fire bassist Jeff Matz is their new member.

One of the albums to really get me into jazz was the Oscar Peterson Trio’s “We Get Requests”. Ray Brown’s playing on that record is outstanding, especially his feature on “You Look Good To Me”. Here’s a live version of the song, recorded in 1965.

Jonas Lohse is an avid enthusiast for all things double bass. That’s why he wrote his book, “Das Kontrabass-Buch”. Now he’s had Martin Wind translate it to English. “The Double Bass Book” is a comprehensive look at the instrument’s history and construction.

Fender has unveiled the Mustang Micro, a super portable amplifier for guitar and bass. The tiny unit plugs into your instrument, then you plug in your headphones to start jamming.

Nenad Vasilic sent us his latest video with this note: “Here is a new video of a Bass Jam with amazing odd rhythm tune in 11/8!” The jam took place in Vienna with Nenad and Vladimir Samardzic.

Geezer Butler’s full solo discography has been re-released as a box set. “Manipulations of the Mind – The Full Collection” includes “Plastic Planet”, “Black Science”, and “Ohmwork”. It also has a bonus disc of rare and unreleased material.

We previously featured a bass by John Sullivan, who built his own bass to be a versatile workhorse. Now he’s shared a killer five-string.

For her latest video, Juliaplaysgroove asked her friend, guitarist Michal Rajca, to join her to create the “ultimate funk experience”. The duo does indeed get super funky playing along to Cory Wong’s “Design”.
