Stanley Clarke, Stewart Copeland, and Deborah Holland Reunite as Animal Logic

Animal Logic

Stanley Clarke, Stewart Copeland, and Deborah Holland have reunited as Animal Logic to announce two brand new singles that will be released in November. The songs will be the supergroup’s first releases in 31 years.

Animal Logic was first formed in 1987 when the jazz bass legend Clarke teamed up with the ex-Police drummer Copeland and singer-songwriter Holland. They released two albums before breaking up due to other work commitments. A press release states that they stayed in touch and have been sharing files and ideas between 2013 and 2022, resulting in the tracks “Can You Tell Me” and “Ordinary”, which will be out November 18th.

“‘Can You Tell Me’ combines classic West Coast songwriting, American folk-rock influences, and Clarke and Copeland’s rhythmic signatures,” the band states. “It explores the need for people to move on instead of wallowing in misery when faced with untenable circumstances. The track also features Howard Levy on harmonica, from Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. ‘Ordinary’ is a kinetic, upbeat rocker with lyrics focusing on the myriad upheavals the world is facing and trying to keep one’s head together despite it all. It includes sophisticated vocal harmonies, addictive hooks, and would have been very much at home on Animal Logic’s debut record.”

While the band has not released any teasers, we do have a clip from Copeland’s Sacred Grove of the trio performing “Whipping Boy” from 2013:
