Bass of the Week: Lawalin Guitars Guit-Fiddle Bass
Six years ago, we shared an amazing bass built by Jason Lawalin that went viral. Lawalin specializes in crafting instruments using composite materials that are fitted with programmable LEDs for unbelievable light shows. The Indiana-based builder has expanded his offerings since the Chamele Bass, and this week we’re checking out his latest creation.
This bass takes his Guit-fiddle body shape and applies it to a super short scale four-string. (Its scale is just 28.5 inches.) The violin-styled, single cut body and its fretboard are composite with a Southwest swirl design. An internally mounted LED system spans the body and fretboard.
“The LEDs are controlled by a microprocessor with 2 rotary knobs,” Lawalin tells us. “One selects the light show, the other selects the light color for over 100 different combinations. The default setting constantly rotates the show and the color. The LEDs are powered by an internal battery, with a USB-C port for charging. The LEDs will run about 10 hours on a single charge.”
Aside from the stunning display, the bass is also setup to sound great. Its fitted with a DiMarzio Relentless PJ pickup set with volume, blend, and tone controls. Other features include Hipshot USA tuners with an Xtender, a Hipshot A Style bridge, and ProRockGear strap locks.
