John Ferrara and Mono Means One Release Debut Album

John Ferrara’s newest project, Mono Means One, has just released its debut album, entitled Listless Playthings of Enormous Forces. The group, including drummer Rob Madore and keyboardist Isaac Young, holed up in a yurt at Lakeside Retreats in Raleigh, North Carolina, to create the record. Being in a unique recording situation with some isolation helped to create extra atmosphere and meaning.

“The album’s title, ‘Listless Playthings Of Enormous Forces,’ is a reference from Kurt Vonnegut’s ‘Slaughterhouse Five,’ about how agency is lost in war,” the band shares. “This title also extends to spiritual freedom lost in today’s world due to our obsession with phones, celebrities, and all other things that large corporations would rather us focus, robbing us of purpose, dignity, and essentially our humanity. John believes art should fight these forces and this album is a right hook to them!”

Together, the trio built a sound with influences from Radiohead, The Mars Volta, and Medeski, Martin & Wood. Of course, Ferrara’s unreal tapping abilities are on display. Check out this studio video of “Enormous Forces”:
