Halftime: Jack White’s Set Gets Its Low-End Edge from Dominic John Davis as Eminem Joins the Moment
Jack White’s Thanksgiving set kicked off at the Detroit Lions vs. Green Bay Packers game and from the first chord you could tell this wasn’t going to be business as usual. Jack White’s Band launched the show solo, raw and wide open, before a surprise that lifted the roof off Ford Field. Eminem suddenly rose up from beneath the stage and joined the set, turning the whole thing into a Detroit celebration in front of a roaring crowd.
Holding everything together was bassist Dominic John Davis, locked in with a vintage Fender Jazz Bass running through an Ampeg rig. Davis has been White’s secret weapon for years and his lines gave the set its weight and swagger. His tone sat right in the sweet spot: thick, woody, and unshakable, the kind of low end that lets Jack go anywhere he wants without ever losing the center.
After Eminem’s moment, Jack closed things out with signature fire and the stadium sang right along with the cheerleaders. It was one of those halftime shows that reminded everyone how powerful a simple setup can be when the players onstage know exactly who they are and what the music needs.
