Federico Malaman joined vocalist Marco Venturini in the studio to record their own version of “At Last.” The iconic tune was made popular by Etta James in 1960. We love the what these two did with the song, including Federico’s jam at the end.

Federico Malaman is flat out a wizard of the bass. And he may have met his match with bassist Mohini Dey. In this clip, the bass duo shows off their skills in this tune, “Maladey”.

Federico Malaman sent me this video to share. “This is a song of mine, dedicated to the great Jaco Pastorius!” he said. “I composed it after watching the Jaco film. Hope you like it.” We loved it. We think you will too.

It seems everytime I see a video by Federico Malaman, I’m struck with three things: his musicianship, his mastery of the bass, and how much fun he has when playing. Here’s as good as an example of all three turned up to 11, on Federico’s take on the Chinese Traditional, “Jasmine Flower.” Enjoy.

Bassist Federico Malaman sent me his brand new video of him doing a cover of a tune by another terrific Italian bassist, Pippo Matino. The tune is “Doctor Mike”, which Pippo wrote as a dedication to guitarist Mike Stern. The first video below is Federico’s cover. The second one is the original. To both I say, “Holy smokes!”

Here’s a bassist who never fails to impress me. Federico Malaman sent in this video of his solo bass version of Sting’s “Seven Days.” After playing a tasty arrangement of the melody, Malaman sets up a loop and lets loose with some soulful soloing.
