Weezer’s four-part album project “SZNZ” has come to a close with its final installment, “SZNZ: Winter.” When vocalist Rivers Cuomo spoke on the EPs last year, he described “Winter” as featuring “lots of loss and despair and kind of quiet.”

Jazz bass icon Buster Williams celebrated his 80th birthday in April, and over his eight decades he’s continually grown. In fact, he’s still growing, which is part of the meaning behind his newly announced album, “Unalome.”

Many people have caught onto Shaun Munday’s amazing talent via his Instagram channel. He’s just released his second album, “Love/Magic,” which has that same solo format plus a conventional rhythm section.

Pink Floyd has released a whopping eighteen live albums from their archive. Recorded in 1972, this was a pivotal time for the band, with music from “Meddle” and “Obscured By Clouds” as well as songs for what would become “Dark Side of the Moon.”

During the pandemic, Roger Waters kept busy with his band by recording tracks remotely from their own homes. Waters released the tracks vis his YouTube channel, but now he’s put them together as a album called “The Lockdown Sessions.”

NOFX has followed up last year’s “Single Album” with the appropriately titled “Double Album.” The playful title also carries in spirit into the music’s subject matter, with Fat Mike saying that it isn’t a serious album.

After years in the studio and on the road, Finnish jazz bassist Jukka Haavisto has released his first album as a leader, entitled “Reflections.” The seven-song collection was composed and arranged entirely by Haavisto himself and has a tip of the hat to old-school fusion sounds.

Bassist Christian Fabian is helping everyone get in the Christmas spirit this year with a new CD entitled “Christmas Everywhere.” He recorded it with Matt King and Jason Marsalis, who help him put holiday favorites in a jazz context.

It’s well known that the connection between a bassist and drummer is an essential one. That’s why Nicholas Payton recruited the legendary duo of Buster Williams and Lenny White for his latest record, “The Couch Sessions.”

Five years after his passing, a piece of Tom Petty’s legacy has been released from his archives. “Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers Live at the Fillmore (1997)” is an enormous box set taken from the band’s residency at the San Francisco venue.

Ever since their 2001 album, fans have been clamoring for The Philadelphia Experiment (Christian McBride, “Questlove”, and Uri Caine) to release a new record. They’ve just dropped a new live album captured at the 2017 Newport Jazz Festival.

Melissa Carper just released a new album called “Ramblin’ Soul” that draws vintage country, western swing, classic R&B, and soul. Although Carper is a double bassist herself, she enlisted session ace Dennis Crouch for the record.
