Kinga Glyk: Armando’s Rhumba
It is always great to see a new video from Kinga Glyk. In this clip, Kinga takes on Chick Corea’s “Armando’s Rhumba”.
Made In Sweden: Our Man
I’m not even sure how I stumbled onto this clip, but I’m glad I did. This performance of “Our Man” by Made In Sweden is from the band’s later years, which actually featured a Finnish rhythm section of drummer Vesa Aaltonen and bassist Pekka Pohjola.
Paradigm Blue: The Optimist
Paradigm Blue has released “Transit”, an album they call “a love letter to the late seventies Rush records”. Ruben Moreno handles bass, vocals, and keys in the trio. Here’s their video for the track, “The Optimist”.
Alex Al: Bass Solo
Alex Al is THAT DUDE. With a list of credits a mile long, every time we see Alex’s name on records we know we are in for a treat. Here he is performing solo at the EBS Booth at a past NAMM Show.
Ellen Alaverdyan: Penny Lane
Ever since we first saw a video by Ellen Alaverdyan, we’ve been completely knocked out. This video is as impressive as any by the young bassist. Ellen simultaneously handles the bass and vocals on The Beatles’ “Penny Lane” in this clip.
Scary Pockets with Eric Krasno: Lost Cause
Scary Pockets was joined by Soulive’s Eric Krasno for this funky cover of Billie Eilish’s “Lost Cause”. Sean Hurley lays down the groove on this one.
Julia Hofer: Top 5 Kool & The Gang Bass Lines
Julia Hofer has been bringing it with her “Top 5 Bass Lines” series. Here’s the latest, celebrating the bass lines of Kool & The Gang.
Aaron Gibson: The Regretful Climb
Aaron Gibson decided to take his song, “The Regretful Climb”, and rearrange it for solo bass. I love Aaron’s approach to solo bass, and this one is another beautiful version.
Pete O’Neill: Drive
Pete O’Neill sent us his newest video, and we’re impressed as always. In this clip, Pete turns The Cars’ hit “Drive” into a solo fretless bass arrangement.
Andre Berry, Nate Phillips & Wayne Jones: NAMM Jam
Nate Phillips is definitely in the Funk Bass Hall Of Fame. Being one of the founding members of the funk group Pleasure, he is one of the funkiest bass players on record. Here he is with bassist Andre Berry, and Wayne Jones jamming at NAMM.
Yes: And You And I (Live)
Here’s a great clip from Yes’s Youtube channel archives, featuring the band in a live performance at the Rainbow Theatre in 1972. This was the “Close to the Edge” tour, with the mighty Chris Squire on bass and backing vocals on “And You And I”.
Victor Wooten: Pretty Little Lady Groove
Here’s a great video from back in the day, taken from Victor Wooten’s “Super Bass Solo Technique” DVD. In this clip, Vic and the band get funky on “Pretty Little Lady”.
