Yesterday was definitely a special day. I ran across this classic clip of the masterful Melvin Lee Davis with Chaka Khan covering “My Funny Valentine” last night. Melvin plays a beautiful solo on a Ken Smith 7 String!

We’re stoked for the new Lake Street Dive album dropping next month. The band is prepping for the release of “Obviously” with some videos. “Hypotheticals” is a fun, upbeat tune, driven by the great Bridget Kearney.

My good friend Ben Jones posted this clip a few days ago and I couldn’t resist sharing it! In this clip, we hear Ben cover the great Brian Bromberg classic, “Minneapolis 1987“.

Death From Above 1979 just announced they have a new album called “Is For Lovers” dropping on March 26th, and they did it by releasing a killer track. The duo of Sebastien Grainger and Jesse F. Keeler are on top of their game.

I became a huge fan of Michael Hedges and Michael Manring during my high school years – individually and collectively. Manring recently shared this video on Facebook of their performance of the Hedges’ tune, “I’m Coming Home”.

Ever since Pino Palladino and Blake Mills announced their collaborative album, we’ve been dying to hear more. Now the duo has unveiled a live performance video for “Man From Molse” featuring the bassist on his iconic fretless Music Man StingRay.

It’s been a while since we’ve shared a video by Scary Pockets, but this one is too cool to pass up. In this clip, the band (with Anna Butterss on bass) mashes up Jamiroquai’s “Virtual Insanity” with some John Mayer-inspired sounds.

Nenad Vasilic sent us his latest video of a solo bass piece called “Roberto’s Blues”. Nenad performs the tune on his RF Travel Bass Lite, which sounds fantastic.

Zycopolis TV just shared an epic video from Jazz à Juan 1994 with Pat Metheny, John Scofield, Steve Swallow, and Bill Stewart.

No Treble readers are bringing it with the videos lately. Here’s one sent to us by Andrew McKinney. Andrew recorded a version of Carol Kaye’s funky line from “El Toro Poo Poo” with his 1962 P Bass with flats - and an assist by his daughter.

Gilad Ephrat sent us this video with one fantastic cover of Peter Gabriel’s “Mercy Street”. Gilad recorded 16 tracks on double bass, with Enav Ephrat on vocals. I love his solos on this one.

Our friend Jason Heath shared this video on Facebook recently, and I am glad he did. Bassist Cristina Zeitz and pianist Andreas Ravn teamed up for this performance of “Barro Tal Vez”. I dig everything about this: the bass, vocals, Rhodes, and the arrangement.
