TV Project: Takadimi

Artem Taranin is a bassist from Kherson, Ukraine. He sent me this video of him performing along with drummer Zhenya Vysochenko on a tune they call “Takadimi”. I love the internet.

Zeroliser: Bass Arrangement of Flume’s “Ezra”

Zeroliser: Bass Arrangement of Flume’s “Ezra”

Our Facebook friend Tim Grunwald sent us a clip of YouTube bassist Zeroliser playing a solo bass version of Flume’s “Ezra”, and I’m glad he did. Zeroliser uses some looping to flesh out the arrangement, which is lush with harmonics, chords, and percussion. Have a video to share? Send it to [email protected].

Or Lubianiker: In Orbit

Or Lubianiker: In Orbit

Bassist and all-around good guy Or Lubianiker just sent me his latest video. This time around, it is one of Or’s own compositions, which he performed with help from his Project RnL bandmates Eyal Amir (keyboards) and Sharon Petrover (drums). Enjoy “In Orbit”.

Anthrax: Caught In A Mosh, Live

Anthrax: Caught In A Mosh, Live

Thrash metal legend Frank Bello’s birthday is today, and we’re celebrating with his band Anthrax’s “Caught In A Mosh”. The clip is taken from The Big 4 concert in Sofia, Bulgaria, in 2010. The song, originally heard on 1987’s Among the Living, is a shining example of the bassist’s style. After the intro, Bello sets up the main riff to...

King Crimson with Tony Levin: Red, Live 1994

King Crimson with Tony Levin: Red, Live 1994

King Crimson had plenty of lineups, but this one may be my favorite. The chemistry between Robert Fripp, Adrian Belew, Bill Bruford, and Tony Levin never disappoints, and creating the double trio with the addition of Pat Mastelotto and Trey Gunn makes it even better. Here’s a great clip of the band from a DVD of a live concert in...

Mike Stern/Victor Wooten Band: Live

Mike Stern/Victor Wooten Band: Live

The 2013 Black Sea Jazz Festival saw a nice mashup of groups, with Mike Stern and Victor Wooten coming together on stage for this live performance. The lineup includes longtime Stern collaborator Bob Franceschini on sax and Wooten band drummer Derico Watson.

La Vague: Sit Down

La Vague: Sit Down

Bass and vocal duo La Vague, comprised of Alessandro Corsi and Francesca Pirami, is back with a new video for “Sit Down” from their self-titled 2009 album. Corsi sets up a tasty groove and keeps the bass line running while he plays fills and countermelodies for a mesmerizing jam. La Vague is working on their next album, which they say...

Crash Kings: Saving Grace

Crash Kings: Saving Grace

It has been a while since we’ve seen Crash Kings, but this band holds a special place in our hearts ever since we shared their “Evolution of Guitar – With No Guitar” video back in 2011. Here’s something much more recent, with brothers Mike Beliveau (bass) and Tony Beliveau (keyboards and vocals) performing “Saving Grace” during their Firepit Sessions.

Colin Trusedell: Amerika, The Beautiful

Colin Trusedell: Amerika, The Beautiful

We’re celebrating Independence Day with a clip of U.S. Air Force bass player Colin Trusedell performing his take on “Amerika, the Beautiful,” as popularized in the bass world by Jaco Pastorius. The track comes from Trusedell’s latest recording, All By Myself. Have a safe and happy Fourth of July!

Steve Harris and British Lion: Eyes of the Young, Live

Steve Harris and British Lion: Eyes of the Young, Live

Iron Maiden bassist Steve Harris is getting ready to take his solo project British Lion out on the road for a month-long tour of the UK. For a teaser of what’s to come, the bass legend posted this live clip of “Eyes of the Young” from his 2012 album. Harris brings his signature snarling tone and driving bass lines to...

Rush: 2112 (1976 Live Performance)

Rush: 2112 (1976 Live Performance)

Here’s a nice throwback for you: Rush performing “2112” on December 10th, 1976 at Capitol Theatre in Passaic, New Jersey. I love how Geddy Lee says they don’t have a lot of time, so they’ll play “2112”.

Hamish Stuart Band with Will Lee: Person to Person

Hamish Stuart Band with Will Lee: Person to Person

Here’s a super fun video of the Hamish Stuart Band performing in 2013. In this clip, Will Lee is not only looking sharp, he’s laying down the funk (with some iconic bass lines thrown in here and there for good measure).
