Seymour Duncan Announces NYC Bass Pickups

Seymour Duncan NYC Bass Pickups

Seymour Duncan has announced a new line of pickups. Similar to pickups found on the city’s handcrafted basses, the new NYC Bass Pickups use a dual coil J-type pickup design with a double row of exposed Alnico pole pieces. They are also made for flexibility with a four conductor cable that allows for three wiring modes: parallel, series, or single-coil.

The company explains parallel mode will dish out a thickened, hum-canceling single coil sound, while series mode gives higher output with more punch and single-coil mode gives it a vintage jazz bass sound. They also describe the pickup’s Alnico 2 rod pole pieces as providing an overall punchy and focused sound with a smooth upper range.

Seymour Duncan’s NYC Bass Pickups can be purchased individually or in calibrated sets for 4- and 5-string basses. The pickup is a direct retrofit replacement for either the 4-string EMG 35 or 5-string EMG 40. They’re shipping soon with a yet to be announced street price.

I have the NYC’s in a Wood and Tronics and they sound great. Whats the difference between these new ones and the ones they have been supplying since 2010? (link : http://www.bassplayer.com/accessories/1168/basslines-nyc-phase-ii-pickups/26075)
