Bartolini’s New Double J-Bass Pickup Packs Two Hum-Canceling Js Into One Shell

Bartolini D942J

Bartolini has introduced a new pickup called the Original 2J D9 Double J-Bass, also known as the D942J. It derives its name from the “Double J-Bass” in its construction: The D942J has two of the company’s 9J passive hum-cancelling pickups installed into a double-wide J-bass shell.

“We made the J pickups work together as a dual humbucker or as a J-bass when coil-split,” they write about the new pickups. “When wired as a series humbucker, they are big and growly with high output. When wired as a parallel humbucker, they are fat and round but with focus – like when you have both volumes on full on a J-Bass. When wired to coil cut, they are precise and clear. And they are hum-free in all setups which can be easily chosen when you install a toggle switch.”

The pickups feature blades instead of poles, meaning they work with In addition to custom builds, Bartolini explains they are designed to fit 2012-2013 Modern Player basses as well as Blacktop basses.

Bartolini’s Original 2J D9 Double J-Bass pickups are now available in neck and bridge position designs. Each version costs $215.
