Forq’s Bass Heavy “Big Party” Available Now

Forq’s new album, Big Party, is perfectly named. The funky set of songs not only evoke good vibes, they’re created by a huge cast of musicians. At the center of the party is Forq leader Henry Hey.
“Weird is at the forefront of what we do in Forq,” Hey says. “We play groove-based improvised music. I don’t really think of it as ‘fusion,’ unless we’re talking about fusing Ennio Morricone with gameshow music from the ’70s, classic video-game soundtracks and D’Angelo.”
Forq itself consists of the keyboardist along with guitarist Chris McQueen, Jason “JT” Thomas, and bassist Kevin Scott. The quartet is augmented with guitarists Jordan Peters and Ryan Scott, drummer Josh Dion, and bassists James Genus, Chris Morrissey, and Eli Menezes.
“In choosing musicians, number one with me is spirit,” Hey explains. “Are they having fun? Are they contributing? I despise the idea of musical mercenaries. All these musicians are lovely people, they’re super creative, and they’re not stuck in one thing.”
Genus, who is known as the SNL bassist, and his time with Herbie Hancock helps kick things off on “Into Bright,” which features a punchy bass line.
