Gov’t Mule’s Chicago Show Highlights Bass Brilliance, Guitar History, and Soulshine with Tedeschi Trucks

Gov’t Mule and Tedeschi Trucks Band lit up Chicago recently with a powerhouse co-headlining show, and No Treble was there to catch the action. I was there and captured the evening, which included some notable bass and gear moments.

Gov’t Mule bassist Kevin Scott welcomed us backstage and delivered a thunderous performance using his Molloon basses along with his signature model from Aluminati Guitars. Guitarist Warren Haynes brought the gear heat as well, playing two historic Family Guitars: Jerry Garcia’s Travis Bean (#11) and Doug Irwin #24. Jason Schuaner of Osiris Pedals helped bring everyone together for this magical moment, facilitating the collaboration that made these rare guitars part of the night’s experience.  Kevin Scott along with many others having been rocking the Osiris Philter pedal for a while now.  Here is a link to my Demo on the Osiris Philter.

During the set, Haynes played an Aluminati “Floodcaster” guitar on “What Is Hip?”, a special build made with wood salvaged from the 2023 North Carolina floods. The one-of-a-kind guitar, signed by the full band after the show, will be auctioned off to benefit Habitat for Humanity.

A standout moment of the night came when Haynes invited Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks to join him on stage for a rousing version of “Soulshine.”

This article features photos from the Gov’t Mule set, with images from the Tedeschi Trucks performance dropping tomorrow. Stay tuned for more from this unforgettable night.
