North Sea Jazz 2025: Munir Hossn’s Standout Bass Work with Lee Ritenour & Friends

Lee Ritenour and Friends delivered a deep and soulful set at North Sea Jazz 2025 and a huge part of that energy came from bassist Munir Hossn. The performance is packed with heavy bass work from Munir who moves between supportive groove, fearless melodic fire and carrying vocal duties at times.  His touch is light when it needs to be and then suddenly he digs in and the whole band shifts around his momentum.

Watching this brought me back to the first time I heard Munir. It was with Basstardos along with Michael Pipoquinha and Hadrien Feraud. That trio completely floored me. I remember sitting there wondering how three players could stretch the concept of bass so far without ever losing the joy in the music. Seeing Munir here with Ritenour reminds me of that same feeling. He brings that rare mix of curiosity and control and he seems to light up every stage he walks onto.

If you want a performance that shows why Munir continues to be one of the most exciting voices on the instrument right now this North Sea Jazz set is a great place to start.
