Ringo Starr Returns with “Long Long Road,” Featuring Dennis Crouch and Nashville All-Stars

Beatles drummer Ringo Starr has released the aptly titled Long Long Road, which marks his 22nd solo album. The follow-up to last year’s Look Up is also his second collaboration with producer T Bone Burnett. As such, it continues his love of country music with collaborations with Sheryl Crow, Sarah Jarosz, Billy Strings, Molly Tuttle, and St. Vincent.
“We’re talking about this Long Long Road I’ve been on – and I’ve been thinking about the road I’ve taken,” Starr reflects. “Starting in Liverpool, being in several bands, then with The Beatles – all those stops on your walk of life, it’s so far out. What would have happened if I’d emigrated to Texas to be near Lightnin’ Hopkins? We don’t know. I could have taken another path, but I took this one and ended up here, still on this Long Long Road. I loved making this record with T Bone and I hope you enjoy listening to it.”
Starr and Burnett again enlisted all-A-list Nashville musicians to create the album, including the return of Dennis Crouch. The bassist, who has worked with everyone from Bob Dylan to Diana Krall, delivers perfect time and tone in his lines, giving the album a warm feel. He also suggested one of the songs for the session, a rare Carl Perkins song called “I Don’t See Me In Your Eyes Anymore,” which Burnett and Starr immediately fell in love with.
Crouch delivers a steady driving slap line on his upright bass to give the song a little swing.
Long Long Road is out now on CD, vinyl and as a digital download (Apple Music, and Amazon Music).
