Ted “Blyss” Gould: Alison

Our friend Ted “Blyss” Gould put together a stunning video of his bass and vocals cover of the Elvis Costello tune, “Alison.”

Blyss tells the story:

“I remember the first time I heard ‘Alison’ in the second to last room the shotgun house that I grew up in. The haunting guitar intro, the laid back groove, Elvis’ raw vocals. It’s one of the songs that I remember from my most formidable years. The dual tape deck with turntable and am/fm radio. Sitting under those high ceilings and the purple glow of the black light in the lamp sitting on top of one of the speakers. For a long time I’d played with the idea of adapting a bass and vocal version and in 2005, just after Hurricane Katrina I put on a small benefit held at the Bistro in Hayward, Ca. with a few different small bands and artists. I did a short set which would be the first time doing the song publicly. It has remained a part of my ‘solo’ repertoire ever since.”
