AC/DC’s Cliff Williams Comes Out of Retirement for the Power Trip Festival
Rock royalty AC/DC have had plenty of ups and downs over the past few years. Band drama and the death of founder Malcolm Young set the group on their heels, but they then reunited the group’s core for 2020’s triumphant PWR UP album. In April, they announced they would perform at the Power Trip Festival on October 7th in Indio, California, marking their first concert since 2016. It will be the first live return of vocalist Brian Johnson, and now we’ve learned that bassist Cliff Williams is coming out of retirement for it.
The band posted a rehearsal clip announcing the news.
“PWR UP for Power Trip! Listen to the rehearsal of the boys powering up with Cliff Williams, who’s coming out of retirement for the festival and Matt Laug on drums,” they wrote.
Williams retired from performing in 2016 after a nearly 40-year run. He joined the group again in the studio for PWR UP, but the Power Trip performance will be his live return to music.
AC/DC has not announced any other shows, so it’s unclear if we can expect any more or if Laug will be a permanent replacement for Phil Rudd. We’ll keep you updated with details as they become available.
