Rybski Introduces Sean O’Bryan Smith Signature Basses

Sean O'Bryan Smith with his Rybski Signature BassRybski Custom Bass Guitars has introduced the Sean O’Bryan Smith Signature Bass. Currently available in Deluxe and Standard versions, the Nashville bassist’s new bass brings together classic elements of a traditional P/J bass with modern craftsmanship and a 21-fret J-profile neck.

“Sean’s career incorporates a successful solo career and also a highly successful recording career with artists worldwide,” a press release on the bassist’s website stated. “As a bassist these needs can be vastly different from one another. On one hand he needs a highly modern bass with lots of percussive top end for his solo career. On the other hand he is a huge fan of vintage instruments that work perfectly for the vast array of artists he records with. It was Sean’s dream to have a bass that would truly transcend the familiarity of a cherished vintage studio instrument with a highly contemporary custom instrument.”

Rybski Sean O’Bryan Smith Signature Bass - Deluxe

Both the Deluxe and Standard Models are handmade by luthiers Slawomir Waclawik and Benjamin Harrison. Common features include custom hand built and handwired Rybski “Phat Jam” pickups with matching wooden covers, an 18-volt EMB BTC system with 2-band EQ, a Babicz Full Contact Hardware bridge, and straplocks installed.

The main difference lies in the materials used. The Standard sports a mahogany body with a maple top and a 3-piece maple neck while the Signature Deluxe features a swamp ash body, a quilted poplar top with poplar veneer and matching headstock, and a satin finished 9-piece Hard Rock maple set neck with Padauk, Vintage Oak, and Smoke Oak veneer. The fingerboard on the Deluxe is exhibition grade birdseye maple with a custom SOS inlay at the 12th fret. A final upgrade includes a hand scalloped brass nut.

The Rybski Sean O’Bryan Smith Signature Deluxe and Standard basses are available for order now with retail prices of $3,595 and $2,495, respectively. For more info, check out the Rybski website.

  1. Thanks for the support guys. It’s a ridiculous line of basses and I am very proud to put my name on it.

  2. Hey bass players, I’ve had the pleasure of playing Sean’s bass (yup, the one in the video) on a couple of occasions and it plays like that proverbial buttah you keep hearing about. It takes no effort at all and is silky smooth from one end to the other. It’s an exquisite piece of work and is worthy of your serious consideration if you’re in the market for an upscale, uptown and uproarious bass.
