Keep It Groovy: Beginner Improvisation – What Do I Play In The Key Of A?

In this Keep It Groovy lesson, we explore tips and tricks for improvising a bass line. Working in the key of A, we’re settling on a particular chord progression and spending two bars on each chord. This is super important knowledge — understanding the key we’re in, how long we’re on each chord, and what the chord progression is. These will be the main factors in learning how to improvise. We’ll move from A Major (the one or tonic chord) to F# minor (the six or vi chord) and discuss techniques for creating a bass groove.

Enjoy, and keep it groovy!
