Learn How To Play A Country Bass Line: Folsom Prison Blues by Johnny Cash

Let’s add to your repertoire of country blues bass lines and practice the Johnny Cash classic, “Folsom Prison Blues.” This song features a traditional root-fifth style bass line and requires simplicity, a good tone, and a clear understanding of the chord progression. It follows a 12-bar blues form and can be used as a template for plenty of other blues or country classics.

Enjoy, and keep it groovy!

  1. Thank you Ryan, great lessons, love what you do. I have played bass for years in ensembles (Chicago blues, country, folk etc.) My wife has never played a stringed instrument and she has been playing bass the past few years as I am really a guitar player. Your lessons will really help embellish what she has been playing.
