Job For A Cowboy Releases First Album in 10 Years, “Moon Healer”

Job for a Cowboy Moon HealerTen years after their last studio album, Sun Eater, the death metal heroes in Job For A Cowboy have returned with a new album. Moon Healer is described by bassist Nick Schendzielos as a mirror of its predecessor in style and concept.

“It was 100% our intention to mirror Sun Eater with Moon Healer,” he told New Noise Magazine. “Sun Eater was the first time the band really made what we wanted to make, and from our perspective, it worked really well. You could tell that we had sort of found our voice as a band. Moon Healer was an extension of that energy. We knew far in advance we wanted to continue down that road musically and conceptually, to follow it down the rabbit-hole and see where it would lead. There’s an awesome feeling to that, knowing that you’re doing what you want to do.”

Conceptually, the album is a new perspective for the protagonist of Sun Eater. Where he once fell into madness, the character “achieves transcendence through chemical indulgence.”

“The concepts in the album follow someone attempting to explore a different human existence,” explains frontman Jonny Davy. “They considered themselves a pseudo-alchemist. They obsessed over esoteric methods to access altered states of consciousness through various pathways, including a focus on the pineal gland, a small endocrine gland within the center of the brain is believed to potentially play a role in entheogenic experiences. They cooked mind-altering consumables. But contrary to what others viewed as their descent into delusion, they were under the belief that they were unlocking the gateway to some form of profound enlightenment.”

As you can expect, Schendzielos delivers crushing, melodic bass lines that cut through the mix to add further dimension to the band’s sound. Check out the video for “Beyond the Chemical Doorway”:
