Spinal Tap Returns With “The End Continues”: New Film, New Album, and Big Bottoms

After years of waiting, Spinal Tap II: The End Continues has hit theaters. The sequel to rock’s greatest mockumentary catches up with the band 41 years after 1984’s This Is Spinal Tap as Nigel Tufnel (Christopher Guest), David St. Hubbins (Michael McKean), and Derek Smalls (Harry Shearer) reunite.
In addition to the new film, the band has released a new album called The End Continues that compiles all the band’s new songs. The record includes guest spots from Elton John, Garth Brooks, Trisha Yearwood, and Paul McCartney, all of whom also appear in the movie. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Shearer was asked what it was like to play bass in front of the Beatles bassist.
“Yeah. I really tried very hard to put that out of my mind,” he said. “When he was acting, I was watching him, but when we were playing I just put him out of my mind. You have to. I’ve played bass in front of a lot of other bass players. When we were at Live Earth, there were 19 bass players on the stage. Robert Trujillo, my God, stole the show. But yeah, this was a different experience.”

The End Continues is available now on CD, vinyl and as a digital download (Apple Music, and Amazon Music).
