We think – as do many readers here – that Tal Wilkenfeld is a killer bassist. Now she’s proving she can sing, too. Wilkenfeld recently launched her own YouTube channel with a solo version of the Leonard Cohen classic “Chelsea Hotel.”

Franklin Peredo sent us this video of his solo bass song “La Fleur de Sipo,” and it really caught my attention. The song has a beautiful flow to it thanks in part to Peredo’s incredible right hand technique and rhythmic sensibility.

It has been way too long since we’ve featured bassist Russ Sargeant. Russ has just completed a recording of his newest tune for bass and vocals, “Still”. Back in January, bassist Josh Cohen shared his terrific story in our Reader Spotlight series. Josh is back with this new video of him performing a solo bass arrangement of the Toots Thielemans standard, “Bluesette”. “Bluesette” was first recorded by Toots in 1962, with him whistling and playing guitar in unison. Renaud Garcia-Fons never ceases to amaze me. Here’s another fantastic performance of his song “Bajo de Guia,” taken from his DVD The Marcevol Concert. Garcia-Fons has an insane amount of facility on the bass, especially in thumb position. His gypsy/flamenco style proves his rhythmic mastery, which is taken even further with his foot-tapping pattern.
