Zander Zon: Braveheart Theme for Solo Bass
For Zander Zon’s 50th solo bass video, he went back to one of his favorite movies for inspiration. Zander found the soundtrack for Braveheart to be “amazingly beautiful music”, and arranged the main theme for solo bass. For this arrangement, his bass is tuned B, Eb, Db, Gb.
Viktor Lörincz: Return of the Boomerang
One of the most popular videos we’ve ever shared is Viktor Lörincz’s “Boomerang,” back in 2011. We even had Stuart Clayton transcribe it. Now Lörincz is back with “Return of the Boomerang,” a bass solo that builds on his previous and most popular video. This one’s got it all: slapping, tapping, chords, and of course, a deep groove.
Willy González: 29 Mineros de San Albino
Willy González is one of my favorite bassists. His unique approach draws from traditional Latin American folk styles with strumming and fingerstyle techniques on his 6-string bass. Here’s Willy performing the song “29 Mineros de San Albino”:
Armin Metz: Infin
Armin Metz has created a piece of art with his latest video for his song “Infin.” Using harmonics and a long reverb, Metz builds an ethereal soundscape with a minimalist video of just himself and his bass.
Adam Stevens: Live Solo Bass Loop Version of Little Dragon’s “Twice”
Adam Stevens always impresses us with his solo bass arrangements. Here he is with one of his latest – a live bass loop version of Little Dragon’s “Twice”.
Jim Bennett: “Thrift Shop” Bass Jam
“Daft Bass” bassist Jim Bennett has shared a new video, this time doing a cover of Macklemore’s “Thrift Shop”. Jim says it is more of a “Bass Jam”, and he’s posted some basic tab for the main riff on his website.
Simon Fitzpatrick: “One Summer’s Day” Solo Bass Performance
I’ve not yet had the pleasure of meeting Simon Fitzpatrick in person yet. Until I do, I’m not going to be sure he’s actually human. Once again, Simon turns in an impressive solo bass arrangement, this time taking on the tune “One Summer’s Day”, from the movie Spirited Away.
Ian Pettersson: On Raglan Road
Yes, St. Paddy’s Day was yesterday, but we’re going to celebrate a little more today with some bass goodness from Ian Pettersson. Ian sent us this video of him performing his own solo bass arrangement of the classic Irish song, “On Raglan Road”. Ian said the song is based on a “poem by Patrick Kavanagh but made famous by Luke...
Zander Zon: Nine Inch Nails’ “Hurt” for Solo Bass
Time for another incredible solo bass performance by Zander Zon. This time, he tackles the Nine Inch Nails tune, “Hurt”. The arrangement came by popular demand… Zander asked fans on his Facebook page which song he should cover next, and this one received the most votes by far. In case you’re wondering, his bass is tuned A, E, C, E...
Tobia Ciaglia: Live Bass Session
This one is sure to get your head bobbing. Italian bassist Tobia Ciaglia gets an awesome groove going with just his bass, a slide, and a wooden box.
Grant Stinnett: Primal
Our friend Grant Stinnett sent us his latest video showcasing what he typically does in a live show setting for solo bass. Armed with his bass, a BOSS GT-10 and some stunning technique, here’s Grant’s performance of “Primal”.
Gheorghe Postoronca: Victoria
Gheorghe Postoronca is one of my favorite solo bassists we’ve featured in the past year. His approach uses lots of cool techniques, but he always keeps things musical. Here’s a gorgeous composition entitled “Victoria” from his upcoming second solo album.
