My favorite basses we feature in this column have a story to them, and this one is no different. Joe Sheil wrote to us to share his newest instrument and the background to its creation.

Jackson has expanded their JS Series of Spectra basses with the JS2P, the JS3, and the JS3V. Each of the basses has the Spectra off-set body shape made from poplar.

DSM Humboldt has expanded their product line with the ClearComp 1078 Dynamic Threshold Compressor. The pedal’s topology is a new design that adjusts the threshold on the fly.

This year’s NAMM Show was moved from January to June and wrapped on Sunday. While it takes us time to publish all the bass gear news from the show, we’re kicking things off with this roundup of what we’ve covered so far.

Reverend Guitars is celebrating 25 years in business by releasing three special anniversary edition instruments including a bass. The 25th Anniversary Decision P expands on their flagship bass design.

Meris has added to their lineup of pedals with the LVX, which they call a “modular delay system with pro audio heritage, advanced processing and high-performance signal path.”

Benevolent Basses has some pretty interesting designs, including the Carnival. The hollow body bass features beautiful curves, artistic sound holes, and three large wooden knobs for the controls.

EBS is on hand at NAMM 2022 to introduce a new bass amp called the Reidmar 752. The lightweight head delivers 750 watts at 2 ohms by way of a class-D amplifier. EBS says the amp offers solid tone with punch and clarity.

TC Electronic has unveiled a new pedal in their Plethora series with the Plethora X3. The pedal carries all the same features of the X5 – including a flexible collection of effects – but pares it down to three slots instead of five.

May is in the books, which means our sights are set on NAMM. Before we dive in to all the gear news coming from the show this month, we're looking back at the top 10 reader favorite bass gear stories for the month of May 2022.

Ibanez will be exhibiting at the 2022 NAMM Show in Anaheim, California next week, and they’ve unveiled some of the new instruments they’ll be bringing along. That includes a new acoustic bass guitar model named the AEGB24E.

This week we’re checking out the new Mighty Magma from Maurizio Über Basses, which is a medium-scale headless five-string. Built with a padauk body and thick pistachio top, the bass gets a big tone from a pair of Nordstrand BigMan pickups.
