The Grateful Dead began working on a new studio album in 1992 that never came to fruition. They broke up after the death of Jerry Garcia in 1995, ending any new studio albums from the group. Now a live album, “Ready or Not,” imagines what could have been.

The works of Bottesini, Dragonetti, and Koussevitsky have dominated the solo repertoire for double bass for over a hundred years. Leon Bosch is pushing the instrument’s rep forward with a new album called “21st Century Bass.”

Incognito is celebrating its 40th anniversary with a new album. “Tomorrow’s New Dream” is filled with special guests including Maysa, Phil Perry, Take 6, and more. Of course, it’s also driven by the incredible bass lines of Francis Hylton.

Kyle Eastwood has a unique relationship with the film industry. As the son of a famous actor, he’s been around it his whole life. Now he’s combining his love for jazz and film with a new album called “Cinematic.”

Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins has released a new album called “Get The Money.” The star-studded album is anchored primarily by a band called The Coattail Riders, which includes Chris Chaney. Duff McKagan and Mark King also contributed.

Bassist Sam Wilkes has been blowing everyone away with his performances alongside Knower, Chaka Khan, and Scary Pockets. Now he’s released a live album of his own called “Live on the Green.”

Drum master Virgil Donati has released “Ruination,” and it’s filled with unreal musicianship blurring the lines of fusion and progressive music. Bassists Junior Braguinha, Anton Davidyants, and Evan Marien contributed to the record.

With their final tour dates scheduled for the end of this month, Slayer has released a new film called “The Repentless Killogy.” The release blends the trilogy of music videos released from their last album, “Repentless,” with concert footage from 2017.

Former Chicago bassist and vocalist Jason Scheff has released “Here I Am,” which marks his second solo album. Scheff shares bass duties with DeMarcus as well as session ace Pino Palladino, who is on two tracks.

Darryl Jones has been in the Rolling Stones for 26 years, but he had only been in the group for five years in their latest concert film, “Bridges to Buenos Aires.” Recorded in April 1998, the full-length show was shot in Argentina’s capital.

The Bad Plus have released “Activate Infinity,” marking their second album since their new lineup with pianist Orrin Evans. The trio, rounded out by Dave King and Reid Anderson, still has the same boisterous energy as their previous work.

Jazz bassist Rodney Whitaker has released a new album called “All Too Soon,” which marks the second installment of a five-CD project to observe his fiftieth birthday. The new record pays homage to Duke Ellington.
