I dig the sound of the Valeriy Stepanov Fusion Project. This extended video offers up some stellar, funky music and tunes from a live performance of the band, which includes bassist Albert Stepanov.

Our friend Dwane Woodard shared something on our Facebook Group earlier today, and it was something I completely missed – apparently for the last 10 years or so. Check out Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo playing upright bass with Nickel Creek.

David Pastorius is currently touring with Carl Palmer’s ELP Legacy, filling in for Simon Fitzpatrick. This fan-shot clip by Larry Rulz III was great to see. Here’s the band performing “Hoedown.” David rips it up during his solo!

Our friends at Bass the World shared this one a while back, with the title “FUNKY BASS PLAYER.” Philippe Gonnand grooves hard with the band on his tune, “Réglons nos comptes.” Funky indeed!

Tedeschi Trucks Band rocked the Orpheum in Los Angeles as part of their tour in support of Signs. Here’s a clip from that show, with their performance of “Signs, High Times.”

Huw Foster sent us this terrific video the other day, and we’re digging it. He took Jeff Buckley’s “Lover, You Should’ve Come Over” and turned it into a three-bass arrangement. Huw shared the story behind it as well.

We normally see Linda May Han Oh behind a double bass, but this clip of her song “Speech Impediment” shows she’s great on electric, too. The song begins with a syrupy chordal riff on the bass before playing with the time feel.

Scott Mulvahill’s new album, “Himalayas,” is an amazing testament to great songwriting and great bass playing. The album kicks off with the “Begin Againers.” Check out this solo version of the song from a Love Good house concert in Nashville.

Bernard Edwards was the king of making danceable bass lines. Case in point: “Everybody Dance” by Chic. This clip of the band performing on a 1977 broadcast of TopPop, and starts off with a look at the bassist's unique right-hand technique to kick off the song.

Kevin “KJ” Jacoby shared another great video with his band, The Oddysy. In this clip, the band throws down at Soundcheck / New Sounds with John Schaefer. Check out KJ’s bass solo, starting around the 3:17 mark.

WATCH: Vulfpeck has released another video featuring a tune from their album, “Hill Climber.” My favorite comment on this video is “Joe Dart taking that bass for a walk and he ain’t ever comin’ back.” This is also one of the coolest uses of Animoji’s I’ve ever seen.

A big happy birthday to one of the legends of bass, Anthony Jackson. We’re celebrating today with this video of the Hiromi Uehara Trio Project’s live performance of “Dancando no Paraiso” at Jazz à Vienne in 2011. Smoking!
