G&L Unveils Black Ice Collection Basses
G&L has unveiled a new line of instruments labeled the “Black Ice Collection”. The new basses and guitars feature a “Black Ice” finish, which incorporates the company’s Nearly Naked (NENA) finish with a sleek matte black base and silver highlights in the body’s wood grain. Introduced last year, NENA is a super thin finish the company says promotes body resonance. The instruments come without a pickguard in order to show more of the body.
Basses in the Black Ice Collection include the M-2000 and M-2500. Distinguished as four and five-string models, both basses are built with a 2-piece swamp ash body, a hard rock maple neck, and a maple fingerboard. Electronics include a pair of G&L MFD humbuckers and a G&L M-spec 18v preamp with a 3-band EQ.
Available for a limited time, the G&L Black Ice M-2000 and M-2500 will be shipping this month with suggested retail prices of $1,900 and $2,050. For more info, check out the G&L website.

Really good looking basses, unfortunately way overpriced for G&L.
I can’t say enough good things about G&L basses and guitars! They are superb work horses and can take anything you throw at them and still come out unscathed. I like the new black ice look and the 18 volt electronic system must really define the tones. I have Fenders, EBMM SR4 & 5, Bongo, Warwick, Lighwave Sabre Hybrid, but my G&L L-2500 is my” go to” bass. I think it is a fair price for the quality you get as opposed to boutique bass prices that can ask for $4,000 and up. Keep up the great work G&L!
Overpriced? I don’t think they are much different from a normal USA G&L.
This doesn’t take away that I still can’t afford one right now…
I’m a BIG BIG G&L fan. Their basses are very solid and have a great tone. Unfortunately, I’m not in the market for another bass. HOWEVER… if they had made this bass with a matching black head stock I don’t think I could resist getting one. My wife is glad they don’t make one.

I wish it were available in the L-2000 model! The “M” series has a wide neck like a P-Bass or a Music Man. I prefer to have the J-Bass thinner neck like the L-2000.
I now own the above pictured G&L M-2000 and it is a nail driver!
