New Phil Lynott Documentary, “Songs For While I’m Away,” Now Available

Phil Lynott: Songs For While I'm AwayA new documentary examining the life and music of Phil Lynott is now available. Directed by Emer Reynolds, Songs For While I’m Away tells the story of the Thin Lizzy bassist and frontman, through his bandmates, colleagues, and family members.

“’Songs For While I’m Away’ paints the picture of Lynott’s journey from a young black boy living in 1950’s working class Dublin to Ireland’s premiere rock star,” a press release explains. “The film focuses on some of his iconic songs, from the initial success of ‘Whiskey In The Jar’, to mid-1970s hits ‘Jailbreak,’ ‘Waiting For An Alibi,’ and of course ‘The Boys Are Back In Town,’ which hit #1 in Ireland, #10 in the UK, and became a hit in the US and Canada, rocketing Thin Lizzy into international superstardom. As a songwriter and poet, Lynott infused his roots into these songs, creating narratives that fans the world over could relate to.”

As successful as he was, Lynott sadly became addicted to drugs and alcohol, which would eventually lead to his death in 1986. His legacy and musical impact is still evident today some 35 years later.

Songs For While I’m Away is available now for streaming and download through iTunes, Google Play, and Amazon.
