For the Love of Anthony Jackson: Bass Icons Unite for a Historic Benefit Concert

Anthony Jackson has been a huge influence on the bass world throughout his career. He pioneered the six-string contrabass guitar, not to mention his incredible playing on some of the most important recordings in pop and jazz history.
Unfortunately, his health took a turn for the worse in 2016, leading to his final performance in 2017. Jackson has suffered a series of strokes and has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Although he can no longer tour, record, or perform locally, he has physical therapy and continues to work on the bass on his own time.
To help with his financial wellbeing, Shapeshifter Labs has announced a benefit concert called “For the Love of Anthony.” The evening will celebrate and honor Jackson’s life and work with a who’s who of performers. The list includes Ron Carter, Simon Phillips, Victor Wooten, Christian McBride, Dennis Chambers, Matt Garrison, Mike Pope, Bob Franceschini, James Genus, Gene Lake, Mino Cinelu, Cliff Almond, Steve Bailey, Lincoln Goines, Kevin Scott, Nat Adderly Jr., Divinity Roxx, MonoNeon, Antonella Mazza, Omar Hakim, Rachel Z, Joey Lauricella, Andy Swift, DJ Logic, and Andy Smith.
Bass Magazine editors Chris Jisi and Elton Bradman will also be on hand to interview Jackson himself.
“For The Love of Anthony” will be held on February 27th at Shapeshifter Labs in Brooklyn, New York. Tickets are available now through the Shapeshifter website. Anyone who cannot attend but would like to support Anthony Jackson can donate through PayPal.
In his time with No Treble, Kevin has met hundreds of amazing bassists and interviewed icons like Jack Casady, Victor Wooten, Les Claypool, Marcus Miller, and more. He's a gigging bassist performing jazz in Northern Virginia and bluegrass with The Plate Scrapers up and down the East Coast.
