We like to celebrate Halloween bass-style each year. Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” shows up on many of the top 10 Halloween song lists we’ve seen, and luckily for us, Andres Rotmistrovsky put together his own solo bass arrangement. I don’t know how he holds down the bass line while playing the chords, but I’m going to be studying that. Happy Halloween!

You just gotta love bassist Viaceslav Svedov, who brings great all-bass arrangements, tons of energy and plenty of epic bass faces in each of his videos. Here’s Viaceslav doing his thing with the Megadeth tune, “Train of Consequences”, from the band’s 1994 album, Youthanasia.

Armin Metz is back with another great solo bass song called “Lu.” He grooves hard with a fat bass line, singable melody, and some gorgeous chord work. Bravo!

Magnus Sjöquist is a U-Bass master. Our Facebook friend John Stam sent this video of Sjöquist kicking out a groove in tribute to the Victor Wooten arrangement of “Amazing Grace.”

Iuliu-Bogdan Diaconeasa, aka “Bass Battle”, has released the fifth video in his series of live looping bass compositions. “Finding Myself” is a solo bass song that slowly layers up, eventually adding chords, bass, melody and percussion. Check it out:

In this recent video, Zander Zon takes a pop tune and makes it better, with a solo bass arrangement. Enjoy Zander’s own arrangement of Adele’s “Someone Like You”.

Craig Akin sent us this epic video of a tune he wrote for solo upright bass. The tune, “Do it!” was featured on Abbie Gardner’s album, Hope in 2011. Craig said he’s performing this tune on his 19th century Tyrolean bass with spirocore strings. Oh yeah.

Alejandro Masafret sent me this video of him performing what he calls “fragments of several improvisations” on bass. His slap skills are quite impressive, as you’ll see. But then after he lays down some loops, he switches to soloing over top of it all in an equally impressive way. Then he changes it up yet again. And again.

“Blackbird” by The Beatles may be one of the most covered songs ever written, but Cody Wright of the Jonathan Scales Fourchestra puts an awesome spin on it with his unique bass arrangement. Switching between tapping, fingerstyle and picking, Wright’s mesmerizing version was captured during his performance at the Asheville Music Hall in Asheville, North Carolina on September 26, 2013....

I’ve been super impressed with Miki Santamaria since the first video we shared by him. It goes beyond his bass playing, which is remarkable enough. It is his musicianship that impresses me even more. Evan Marien just sent his latest video, and while it is without one of our favorite drummers (Dana Hawkins) it is still plenty cool. The tune is “Aeon”, written by Evan, who utilizes a few pedals and Markbass’ new Bass Multiamp. This one grooves. We wish it was longer, but Evan says, “just? replay it”.
