Wolfgang Muthspiel has released “Angular Blues,” which marks his fourth album on ECM. The record is a return to the trio format, which the guitarist fills out with longtime drummer Brian Blade and bassist Scott Colley.

Hunstmen have released a new album called “Mandala of Fear,” which is described as “storytelling through metal dynamically melded with elements of folk and country.” The Chicago-based quintet features the bass work of bassist Marc Stranger-Najjar.

Bob Geldof and The Boomtown Rats have released “Citizens of Boomtown,” which marks their first album in 36 years. Bassist Pete Briquette, who dishes out some dirty tone on the album, also produced the record.

Jazz icons Kenny Barron and Dave Holland have teamed up with Johnathan Blake for a debut trio recording called “Without Deception.” Barron and Holland have worked together for nearly three decades but released their first duo album five years ago.

Tower of Power celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2018 with “Soul Side of Town.” Though it was a partial victory lap for the band, they’re clearly not done as they’ve just released a new album called “Step Up,” recorded during the same session.

After being released as part of Record Store Day in November, a remastered vinyl version of Colonel Les Claypool’s Fearless Flying Frog Brigade’s “Live Frogs” is now widely available. The package includes both sets one and two on green splatter vinyl.

Craig Martini has released his debut album, “Thought of Everything.” The bassist, who has performed with artists ranging from Phil Collen to Colin Hay, recorded the whole album using just his bass, his voice, and drum loops.

Singer/songwriter José James has released “No Beginning No End 2,” which serves as a sequel to his 2013 album on Blue Note Records. His fluid mix of jazz, pop, R&B, and soul remains intact, thanks in part to bassist Ben Williams.

Circles Around the Sun guitarist Neal Casal tragically took his own life late last year, one week after recording a new album. In a note, he asked that the band continue on and the album be completed. The band has honored his wish with their third studio album.

More of the legendary work of bass hero Jack Bruce has been released to the public with a new Cream box set entitled “Goodbye Tour Live 1968.” The set collects four complete concerts from the power trio’s farewell tour.

Banjo player and eclectic songwriter Danny Barnes has just released a new album called “Man on Fire.” The record features some pretty amazing guests, including John Paul Jones.

Bassist Madelief van Vlijmen has just released a new album with her project Madlife entitled “Swans and Foxes.” The bandleader dishes out vocals and catchy bass lines that will make you want to dance.
