Charles Berthoud: When They Say You Have Too Many Frets
Charles Berthoud has produced an incredible run of “When They Say…” videos. In this one, he responds to the “You Have Too Many Frets” comment by playing a fretless. It is pretty epic.
Fernando Molinari: Mercurio
One of my favorite new albums has been Fernando Molinari’s “Reaching Inside”. He’s just released a few more videos from the making of the album including this one for “Mercurio”, featuring Marco Minnemann and Davi Filho.
Lake Street Dive: Thank You For Being A Friend
Lake Street Dive posted a video yesterday in honor of Betty White, who passed away on December 31st. In this clip, the band performs “Thank You For Being A Friend” (the theme from “The Golden Girls”), with Bridget Kearney on the Hofner.
Juliaplaysgroove: Them Changes (Bass Version)
Juliaplaysgroove is starting the new year off with a fresh, new video! In this clip, she takes on my favorite Thundercat tune, “Them Changes.” That Musicman Sterling sounds great, and all the basses are covered.
Pete O’Neill: Charles Berthoud’s “Cello Strings on Bass Sound Unbelievable”
Pete O’Neill has been busy. He just shared his latest video with us, and it was the result of a lot of work. In this clip, he takes on Charles Berthoud’s “Cello Strings on Bass Sound Unbelievable” on his Whalebass.
USG Fusion Trio: Nolens volens
Daniel Senko sent us a new video by his band, USG Fusion Trio, to kick off the new year. I love this trio, and their tune, “Nolens volens”.
Magnus Sjöquist: Bergslagen
Magnus Sjöquist is known for his work on the U-Bass, but his latest video is totally different. He won the International Bass Competition, and the first prize: a Boden Bass. The combo of the bass and his home in Sweden led him to write this song.
Peekaboom: My Life is Going On
It has been a while since we’ve seen a video by Peekaboom. Thankfully, bassist Simone Masina sent us the latest from the duo. In this one, they perform a beautiful, minimal arrangement of Cecilia Krull’s “My Life is Going On”.
Sanborn Sessions: “Señor Blues” with Christian McBride
Episode 6 of the Sanborn Sessions featured an appearance by guest Christian McBride. They recently shared a standalone video from the session, where they perform “Señor Blues”. The song kicks off with an epic intro by McBride. And man, his tone!
Scary Pockets: Dreams / Just the Two of Us Mashup
Scary Pockets has put together some pretty impressive mashups in the past. Anchored by Nick Campbell’s smooth bass lines, here’s the group performing another: a funk mashup of Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams” and Bill Withers’ “Just the Two of Us”.
Mark Lettieri Group: Red Dwarf
It is always exciting to see a video by the Mark Lettieri Group drop. GroundUP Music just shared this live cut of “Red Dwarf” with Wes Stephenson handling both the bass and a Fisher-Price Laugh n’ Learn. What a smokin’ tune!
Fusion Biscuit: 6/5
No Treble reader Juraj Kysel sent us this video of his band Fusion Biscuit, and we were hooked. Here they are performing “6/5”.
