Scary Pockets: Dancing in the Dark
Scary Pockets is back with a new video, and this one is tight. Bassist Joe Ayoub is coming through loud and clear and prominently featured with a groovy line on their funky cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “Dancing in the Dark.”
Steel Pulse, The Soul Rebels, and Marcus King: Franklin’s Tower
Add LOCKN’ to my calendar for next year. After watching so many great videos from the festival, I’m hooked. Here’s a clip of Steel Pulse with The Soul Rebels and Marcus King performing a cover of the Grateful Dead tune, “Franklin’s Tower.”
Martin Miller: The Ultimate Police Medley
We’ve enjoyed the various covers Martin Miller has done. In this clip, he takes on the music of The Police, with seven tunes. Once again, Benni Jud is handling the bass duties, as well as the backing vocals.
Anderson, Rabin and Wakeman: Heart Of The Sunrise (Live)
Here’s a phenomenal live clip from an Anderson, Rabin & Wakeman concert in 2018, with bassist Lee Pomeroy. ARW’s performance of “Heart Of The Sunrise” prominently features Pomeroy, including a fantastic solo.
Snarky Puppy: Tiny Desk Concert
Snarky Puppy visited NPR recently to record a Tiny Desk Concert, and it was epic. In addition to the great music, Michael League decided to get the staff and audience involved with creating a polyrhythm.
Prince: Funk Jam Session
Abby Dart (mom to Vulfpeck’s Joe Dart), shared this video saying, “Vulfpeck shared this today and it was TOO funky not to share with everyone!” This live clip of Prince is definitely funky, thanks to Rhonda Smith and an all-star band.
House of Waters: Together (Live at Song of the Wood)
It is always a good day when a new House of Waters video hits. In this clip, the band performs “Together,” from their latest album, “Rising.” As always, bassist Moto Fukushima plays an equally impressive and beautiful part on the tune.
The Main Squeeze: Voodoo Child
I’m a big fan of The Main Squeeze (and Hendrix). So I was thrilled to see this new video. In this clip, the band takes on Hendrix’s “Voodoo Child.” Rob Walker is playing some fantastic lines behind the band.
The Who: A Quick One (While He’s Away)
The Who is releasing a new album on December 6th, but they’re pushing a lot of vintage content in the meantime. Here’s a 1968 clip of “A Quick One (While He’s Away),” which features a fantastic bass line by John Entwistle.
Richard Bona: Uprising of Kindness
Here’s a fantastic clip of Richard Bona performing “Uprising of Kindness” at the RTL Jazz Festival. Backed by a string quartet and band, Bona adds his amazing vocal and bass skills to this beautiful composition.
