Bassist Ran Kaufman sent us some of his videos, and we were immediately impressed. Ran employs loops in his work, and does so in a way that lays down a nice groove to let him showcase his soloing abilities. Here’s Ran performing his tune “Funky BaBa”. Funky indeed.

Bass whiz Simon Fitzpatrick has done it again with a jaw-dropping version of Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven”. Ohhhhh yeah. Here’s guitarist Oz Noy’s band, with the awesome pairing of bassist Will Lee and drummer Keith Carlock performing the tune “Schizophrenic” live in Tokyo. The well-named tune switches from funky to rocking and back. Will is definitely laying it down and having fun on this one.

On the heels of the release of Everybody’s Talkin’ this week, here’s the Tedeschi Trucks Band performing the “Come See About Me”. Once again, Oteil Burbridge lays down just the right bass line. Check out around the 1-minute mark when he gets the attention of Derek and Susan. Awesome.

How cool is this? Bassist (and No Treble columnist) Damian Erskine joins his uncle, drummer Peter Erskine, in a live performance with the Jaco Pastorius Big Band. This performance was part of Jaco’s 60th birthday celebration and took place last November in Kawasaki, Japan. Damian kills it!

The guys from Rush are so cool. In addition to their amazing musicianship, they’re really funny. And pretty good actors. This of course comes from the band’s Time Machine 2011 – Live in Cleveland DVD. We may be partial, but we like Geddy Lee’s character best.
